A LUCKY man has told how he won a brand-new Porsche worth more than £100,000 – but is still keeping his old Ford Focus.
Laurence Rogers, 57, from Bedford, scooped his dream machine in an Omaze raffle after buying a ticket for just £35.
His new car is a Porsche Taycan 4S, an electric super-saloon from the German manufacturer famous for building the iconic 911 sports car.
Mr Rogers, who works as a financial accountant in Milton Keynes, currently drives a 1.0-litre Ford Focus with only 125PS that takes more than 10 seconds to reach 62mph.
And he has no immediate plans to part with his trusty old Ford, which has almost 100k miles on the clock and is currently worth around £5,000.
He said it was the only new car he’d ever owned and replaced an earlier Ford Focus which he’d had for 16 years, so he can’t bring himself to say “goodbye to it just yet” even though it has ”a few dings and dents now”.
A stunned Laurence said: “When I found out I’d won it was still early in the morning, so I thought I must be dreaming.
“I immediately told my wife who thought I was joking. I was still in shock when I told my colleagues at work – they all said that people never actually win these things but I think they’ve changed their minds now.
“I hadn’t realised there was an Early Bird Prize and knew the house draw wasn’t due for a while, so wasn’t expecting a call from Omaze.
“To be honest I had never really considered the chance of winning a car. I just couldn’t believe it, the best thing I’d ever won before this was a bottle of aftershave at a company Christmas raffle.
“The car is absolutely incredible, I remember how excited I was when I first saw the dashboard of my Ford Focus light up at night, but this Porsche feels like the Starship Enterprise in comparison!
“My wife doesn’t drive, but perhaps she’ll consider taking lessons now we have a Porsche!
“I’m definitely keeping it for a while as I may never get the chance to own a car like this again – but thinking long-term, the money would provide financial security for my family and allow us to spend more quality time together.”
Laurence paid just £35 for his winning entry in the Omaze Million Pound House Draw and is hoping his good luck continues so he can bag the main prize – a stunning £2,500,000 beachfront house in Kent – as part of a prize draw to raise vital funds for Global’s Make Some Noise.
The winner of the main prize will get the keys to the unique ‘Bond lair-esque’ four-bedroom house, built into the cliffs on the Kent coast, on the site of a former WWII gun emplacement.
The house comes fully furnished and mortgage free – with all stamp duty and legal fees covered. The winner is also given £50,000 cash to help them settle in – and is free to either live in the house, rent it out or sell it.
Draw entries for the Omaze Million Pound House Draw, Kent are available now.
The draw closes on Sunday September 25 for online entries and Tuesday September 27 for postal entries.
