Martin Tyler spoken to by Sky Sports after he is slammed for ‘racist’ comment about Tottenham star Son Heung-min
SKY SPORTS have spoken to Martin Tyler after he was slammed for appearing to make a racist comment on live television.
The incident occurred during Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.
As South Korean Spurs forward Son Heung-min tackled Cody Gakpo Tyler was heard comparing his challenge to “martial arts”.
Fans watching at home slammed Tyler and Sky Sports have confirmed the veteran commentator has been spoken to over his choice of language.
A spokesperson told The Sun: “Martin Tyler has been reminded of need for care with his wording while on the air.”
Fans were quick to criticise Tyler over his comparison with some calling on the 77-year-old to apologise or even retire.
One wrote: “Really pains me to say it but I think it’s time for Sky to retire Martin Tyler.”
Another added: “Martin Tyler needs to apologise for that immediately after the game.”
A third added: “I assume Sky Sports will be launching an investigation into Martin Tyler’s racist comments about Son in the Liverpool vs Tottenham match?”
A fourth fumed: “Martin Tyler’s ‘martial arts’ comment about Son’s yellow card was disgusting, xenophobic and racist. Not happy.”
It comes after Tyler was forced to apologise for saying injured Ukraine keeper Heorhiy Bushchan would have to ‘soldier on’ last year.
