A MURDER investigation is underway tonight after a woman died after being discovered with serious injuries in a seaside home.

Emergency services charged to the property in Brighton, East Sussex, shortly before 5pm on Thursday following concerns for welfare.

They discovered a woman with serious injuries and after emergency treatment, she was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in the city.

But despite the efforts of medics, she tragically died on Saturday.

Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

A post-mortem to determine how she died has not yet taken place.

A 47-year-old man from nearby Newhaven was arrested on suspicion of murder but has been released on bail.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said last night: “Officers in Brighton have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Emergency services were called to Cowley Drive shortly before 5pm on Thursday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman.”

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.

“There is not believed to any wider risk to the public and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident at this time.

“Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Bradwall.”
